Research Careers in Your Dream Field
Thinking of a career in audio/visual technology? This project is your time to get started on mapping your educational and career pathway. Since many professions in the arts use A/V technology in some form, this project will help you become better informed.

Assignment Overview
Step One

List 2-3 possible positions in A/V tech to begin, such as those discussed in the lesson. Your selected careers do not have to be mentioned in the lesson, but they do need to be in the field of A/V technology.

Step Two

Research these job titles, relying on professional or informational sources such as the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, Education Portal, professional companies, tech magazines or websites, or interviews with notable professionals in the field. Write a few sentences describing each of the jobs.

Step Three

Narrow your focus to one specific job title, then find out more about it. State why you chose that particular career. Expand on your job description from Step One. Give examples of what people are doing in that career now.

Step Four

Research training programs and schools with degree programs that provide the education, training, and certification required. Name at least one. Be specific on degree or certification titles, length of program, and the training environment and equipment involved.

Step Five

Research companies where you could work with your skills. Describe one, including details on work environment, starting job or internship, working up to the job title of your focus. For example, what’s it like working at Pixar, Industrial Light & Magic, or at a sound recording studio?

Note: You may find it helpful to research career profiles of professionals working in the job you selected, through their company bios for example.

Submission Requirements
Your finished report can be either a) written, b) a PowerPoint slideshow, or c) a multimedia presentation. Choose the format that is best for your skills and abilities.

Give your project a title.

Show your work on steps 1-5 in five sections, in order. Use section headings in Bold, as separately titled slides if creating a PowerPoint, or as separately introduced segments in a multimedia presentation.

Include the specific information you discovered in your research for each step.

You may include photos of equipment and/or work environment.

Use technical vocabulary, and describe processes, as clearly as you can.

End your project by answering these questions:

What did you learn about the job and what it takes to do it well?
How does rapidly changing technology and equipment affect this job?
What do you think the future looks like in this profession?
